TRURO, N.S. -- The Westisle Wolverines No. One senior boys' volleyball team struck gold at a Maritime tournament for the second weekend in a row.
They did it first at Three Oaks in Summerside on Sept. 19, and the Wolverines won the Cobequid Educational Centre (CEC) Cougar Invitational in Truro last weekend.
Westisle head coach Peter Bolo said all nine team members contributed well.
"Outside hitters Brandon Boyce, Lukas Dyment and Dylan Ellsworth, along with middle Owen Doucette and setter Jeff Duggan, were exceptional and deserve special mention," said Bolo.
Westisle started off pool play on the losing end of a 2-1 (21-25, 25-21, 16-14) match to the host Cougars. Then they reeled off wins of 2-0 (31-29, 25-19) over West Kings 2-0 (25-11, 25-21) over Citadel High and 2-1 (15-25, 25-13, 15-9) over Horton Two, placing the Wolverines second in their pool at 3-1 (won-lost).

Playoffs
In the playoffs, Westisle defeated Colonel Gray 2-0 (25-7, 25-19) in the quarter-finals and the Sackville High King Fishers 2-0 (25-17, 30-28) in the semifinals.
Westisle and the King Fishers, the reigning three-time Nova Scotia AAA provincial champions, have played each other in many close matches over the past six years, and this one lived up to its billing.
The semifinal victory put Westisle into the championship match against another familiar opponent, Horton High No. One, and they sealed the deal with a 2-0 (25-13, 25-13) victory.
Westisle's next tournament appearance will be at the Colonel Gray Wall of Fame event Oct. 16 and 17. In the meantime, they will focus on league matches.
The Wolverines are currently 3-0 in P.E.I. School Athletic Association league play, and have an overall record, including league and tournament matches, of 14-2.
