Subway Sluggers are travelling to St. Croix, N.S. to represent P.E.I. at the Eastern Canadian women's fastpitch championship which gets underway today.
The team played this season in the midget-intermediate fastpitch schedule consisting of teams playing out of Charlottetown, Cornwall and O'Leary.
Subway is the only intermediate women's fast pitch team in the province.
"We will be in pretty tough at this Eastern Canadian championship," said coach Carol Mayne. "There are only eight teams in the tournament with two from Quebec, two from Ontario and three from Nova Scotia. The teams who won the gold and silver medals last year are back once again this year."
Ontario took gold while Quebec won the silver in 2008."
"We are fortunate to have a flexible roster who can play in a number of positions," said coach Glen Kinney. "It makes it easier for us to prepare a lineup with players who can play multiple positions."
Coach Doris MacKinnon said Subway has a young team but 10 of the players have experience from last year's Eastern Canadians in Quebec.
"We plan to represent P.E.I. well in a tough tournament," said MacKinnon.
The Subway roster includes, Shantell Cummiskey, Kate Domarchuk, Chantal Doran, Emily Hodge, Carley Johnston, Allysha Kinney, Jody Kinney, Micheala MacDonald, Janet Nichols, Jackie Ostridge, Stephanie Richard, Bobbi Jo Shea and Erica Walls.
