SUMMERSIDE - The Biking for Breakfast Challenge (BFBC) is expecting 100 riders on Aug. 1 to bike across P.E.I., but with the increase in riders, more support-vehicle volunteer drivers are needed to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Volunteers can work a half day or full day. Volunteers do not need to have any experience on a bicycle and do not need to do any bicycle repairs.
Volunteers get a free event T-shirt, free accommodation the night before and free meals during the day.
The cycling event, presented by the Dairy Farmers of Canada, supports all school breakfast programs in P.E.I.
In the four previous years, over $40,000 has been raised and 1,507 more children daily are eating breakfast and 14 new programs have started.
However, 49 per cent of schools still do not have a breakfast program and the goal of BFBC is that all Island schools have a program by the year 2020.
