Island drag racers do well in competition

OYSTER BED BRIDGE - A full slate of drag racing was completed on the weekend, with competition wrapped up at Raceway Park just minutes before the rain started.
Carl Toombs of Mayfield defeated Charlottetown's John MacKinnon in the final of the Bracket I division while Kandy Mitton, who had a fantastic .500 reaction time in the quarter finals in her run against Todd Myers, finished third.
In the Bracket II division, Riverview, N.B.'s Philip Greene beat Jack Keirstead from Onslow Mountain, N.S. Josh Toombs from Mayfield was third in the class.
In Junior Dragster action Hunter River's Daniel Collister defeated William Newcombe from Tyne Valley. In Saturday's action, Newcombe defeated newcommer to the class, Jocelyn Campbell in the class final.
On Saturday the Gamblers' I race was won by Bobby Jenkins from Charlottetown with a final round win over Bruce Howatt also from the capital city.
In the Gamblers' II race, Greg Gillis from Margaree Harbour, N.S., defeated Marie Myers from Miscouche in the final pairing of the day.
Next action at the park is June 6-7 when the First Points Race of the 2009 season will be held. Tuesday night Street Drags begin on June 9 and the Sport Compacts invade the park June 13-14.

    I'm not really into drag shows, but good for them for beliving in themselves!
