Takes the lead over Saskatchewan for final playoff spot

SUMMERSIDE -- P.E.I.'s Mel Bernard rink is now leading Saskatchewan in a fight for the final playoff spot at the Canadian senior men's curling championship.

The Summerside rink gained two points in the fifth end and is now leading 2-1.

Bernard, third stone Blair Jay, second stone Douglas Simmons and lead Earle Proude completed the round robin in a third-place tie with Saskatchewan's Eugene Hritzuk at 7-4 (won-lost), setting up the tiebreaker currently being played at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club.

The winner will face New Brunswick in this evening's sudden-death semifinal at 7:30.
