SUMMERSIDE - P.E.I.'s Mel Bernard is up 8-4 over Russ Howard's New Brunswick rink heading into the ninth end of play this morning at the Canadian senior men's curling championship.
Bernard and Newfoundland's Bill Jenkins are chasing Saskatchewan's Eugene Hritzuk for the third and final playoff spot.
Howard (8-2) and Ontario's Bruce Delaney (8-3) are the only men's teams assured of playoff berths.
Bernard's rink, from the host Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club, needs the win over Howard to advance.
