After morning win at senior curling championships

SUMMERSIDE -

SUMMERSIDE -- Lois Fowler and her Manitoba team improved to 5-0 with an 8-4 victory over Ontario's Cheryl McBain in Monday morning's eighth draw at the 2009 Canadian senior curling championships.

Fowler and her Brandon Curling Club rink, also consisting of third stone Gwen Wooley, second stone Lori Manning and lead Lynn Sanderson, sit alone atop the women's standings. Nova Scotia's Colleen Pinkney is second at 3-0 and British Columbia's Kathy Smiley beat Saskatchewan's Deb Thierman 10-4 to improve to 4-1.

Fowler and Smiley will meet in Monday night's 11th draw.

In the other women's game, Quebec's Rolande Madore got into the win column with a 9-4 decision over Wendy Ondrack of the Northwest Territories/Yukon.

In men's play, British Columbia's Brian Gessner outlasted Saskatchewan's Eugene Hritzuk 10-9, Manitoba's Brent Strachan trimmed Ontario's Bruce Delaney 11-3 and Quebec's Mike Carson posted an 8-2 victory over Brad Whitehead of the Northwest Territories/Yukon.

P.E.I.'s Mel Bernard and Shirley Berry rinks face Northern Ontario at 4:30 p.m., and Quebec at 8:30 p.m.
