SUMMERSIDE -- Russ Howard of New Brunswick improved to 3-0 (won-lost) at the 2009 Canadian senior curling championships at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club on Sunday morning.

Howard stole three in the fifth end to take a 4-1 lead en route to a 7-2 decision over Newfoundland and Labrador's Bill Jenkins, who fell to 2-1.

In other Draw 5 action, it was Ontario's Bruce Delaney doubling Quebec's Mike Carson 4-2 and British Columbia's Brian Gessner downing Brad Whitehead of the Yukon/Northwest Territories 8-3.

In women's play, British Columbia's Kathy Smiley won 7-4 over Wendy Ondrack of the Yukon/Northwest Territories, Ontario's Cheryl McBain outscored Quebec's Rolande Madore 9-7 and Newfoundland and Labrador's Barbara Pinsent downed New Brunswick's Sharon Levesque 7-4.

Draw 6 is at 2:30 p.m., and P.E.I.'s Mel Bernard rink from the Silver Fox will face defending Canadian senior men's champion Eugene Hritzuk of Saskatchewan in Sunday night's 7:30 draw. Both rinks are 2-0.

At the same time, Shirley Berry of the Cornwall Curling Club will look for her first victory against Saskatchewan's Deb Thierman. Berry is 0-2 and Thierman is 2-0.
