OYSTER BED BRIDGE -
OYSTER BED BRIDGE - It turned out to be another gruelling edition of the Triple Crown Series at Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday night.
This time it was the Modified Division with an extended feature, and Dylan Gosbee continued to show why he is leading the points' race. Gosbee started at the back of the pack and was able to avoid numerous wrecks while driving to the front. Once he made it to the front, he never relinquished the lead despite a hard charge from Rick Millar.
Gosbee has displayed impressive consistency so far this season. In 12 races, he has only finished out of the top three once, including five wins and three of them in features.
It was a rough night for a lot of drivers in this division, but maybe most for defending champ Randy Millar. His car went screaming over the embankment on Turn 1, and he then went full throttle into the woods near the pit entrance to the track. The car was so buried that initial efforts to get if freed were unsuccessful, and reinforcements needed to be called in after the race was completed.
Start of night
At the start of the night, Kenny Snow was leading the points' race for the Street Stock Division, and he had done this despite not winning a race so far this season. That, however, came to an end Saturday as Snow snagged a win in his first race.
When the feature rolled around, Stephen Gass worked his way to the front and began to drive away from the pack and a win was all but assured for the veteran driver. A late caution for a fire on Emmett Donahue's car paved the way for green-white-checkers.
This time, however, Gass would have to hold off charges from Snow and Gerald MacQuarrie. Gass was able to nail a perfect re-start and secure his lead. Meanwhile, an aggressive move from MacQuarrie on the last corner of the race proved costly for both him and Snow as the two wrecked, costing them both many spots.
In the Outlaw Division, Eldon Doucette took the momentum from a win last weekend and turned it into a triple win this weekend. The wins did not come easy as Doucette had to battle Ricky Myers for the lead in two of those races.
Wes Bingley enjoyed a good night in the For Fun Division, grabbing his first double win of the year.
Racing resumes Saturday as the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour will be the featured event. Fans are reminded that doors will open at 1 p.m. Time trials will begin at 5 p.m., and regular racing will get underway at 6.
