MONTAGUE -
MONTAGUE - Erin Carmody eliminated five-time winning skip Suzanne Birt from the 2010 provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts on Monday afternoon.
Carmody prevailed 8-7 in a clash between two Summerside natives, who both curl out of the Charlottetown Curling Club.
Carmody improved to 5-1 (won-lost) in the triple-knockout P.E.I. women's curling championship, and will face Donna Butler of the Cornwall Curling Club in tonight's 'C' final at 7 p.m. Birt, who lost her first two games, finished 2-3.
Butler stayed alive with a 7-4 afternoon win over Tammy Dewar of the host Montague Curling Club. Both teams are 3-2.
In weekend play, Carmody won the 'A' final and Dewar took the 'B' section.
If Carmody, who skipped P.E.I. at the last three Canadian junior women's curling championships, wins tonight, she will have to be beaten twice on Tuesday.
