The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild lost 3-1 to the Halifax McDonald’s Thursday in the opening game of the Atlantic major midget hockey championship in New Glasgow, N.S.

Ethan Marsh scored an unassisted goal at 15:50 of the first period. Morgan Nauss made it 2-0 on the power play 59 seconds into the third period.

Riley Gallant cut the lead in half two minutes later with Wild captain Abel Arsenault getting the lone assist. Jordan Bezanson made it 3-1 with 8:23 left in the game.

Justin Ritcey was the winning goalie while Alex Smith took the loss.

The Wild plays the host Pictou County Weeks team at 8 p.m. after tonight’s opening ceremonies.
