The Capitals staved off elimination with a 5-2 win over the Miramichi Timberwolves on Friday night in a game that was a lot closer than the final score would indicated.

The Timberwolves lead the best-of-seven Roger Meek Division semifinal 3-1, with Game 5 at the Miramichi Civic Centre on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Before an estimated 900 fans, including over 100 Miramichi supporters, Thomas Stavert (1-2), Cavan Fitzgerald (1-1), Joey Colatarci (1-1), Alex Bradley and Maxim Pitre scored for the Capitals, who took a 2-0 lead into the second intermission after a scoreless first period.

The Caps went ahead 3-0 early in the third period, but the Timberwolves made it a 3-2 game with 2:31 to go in regulation time. However, the Caps put the game away with a pair of empty-net goals in the final minute.

Overall, the Caps outshot the Timberwolves 45-34. Simon-Pier Chamberland was the winning goaltender, and Clint Windsor took the loss.
