The Aces edged the Southside Lynx 2-1 on Tuesday night to win the best-of-seven final series in five games. Tignish has now won three straight Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League championships, and six of the last seven.
At the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud, Brett Gaudet’s third-period goal broke a 1-1 tie, and sent the Aces to the provincial title. Riley Shea drew the only assist on the series-clinching goal.
Rob Miller, assisted by Cody Dawson and Colton Dawson, staked the Lynx to a 1-0 lead in the first period. The score remained that way until the middle frame, when the Aces’ Lucas Gaudet, who was set up by Kirk Ramsay and Charlie Bernard, tied the game.
The final shots-on-goal totals were 36-25 in favour of the Aces, including 11-5 and 16-10 advantages in the first two periods.
Chase Dyment earned the goaltending win, and John Miller was between the pipes for Southside.
Referee Jeff Heron called four minors, one checking-from-behind major, one game misconduct and one 10-minute misconduct against the Aces. Southside was whistled for seven minor infractions.
All four of the Aces’ wins in the series were by a one-goal margin. Other Tignish wins were 3-2 in overtime in Game 1; 7-6 in Game 3, and 4-3 in double overtime in Game 4. The Lynx won Game 2 by a 5-1 margin.
