After winning Game 1 on home ice Saturday night, the Timberwolves defeated the Capitals 1-0 before 805 fans at Eastlink Arena on Monday night.
Billy Gaston’s power-play goal at 8:46 of the first period opened the scoring for the Timberwolves, and that goal stood up the rest of the way.
The Capitals outshot the Timberwolves 27-19, including 12-7 and 13-6 margins in the first two periods, but were limited to just two in the final 20 minutes. But the Caps could not solve Miramichi goaltender Clint Windsor. Simon-Pier Chamberland made 18 saves for the Capitals.
The Capitals went 0-for-4 on the power play while Miramichi was 1-for-3.
Game 3 is in Miramichi, N.B., on Wednesday night, with Game 4 back in Summerside on Friday at 7 p.m.
