CHARLOTTETOWN – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan defeated the Charlottetown Islanders 3-1 Friday to gain an important two points in the final weekend of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season.
The first three goals were scored on the power play in front of a sellout crowd at the Eastlink Centre.
The victory clinched 14th place for the Titan (22-39-4-2).
The Titan led 1-0 after the first period on a power-play goal by former P.E.I. Rocket defenceman Mark Trickett.
Trickett, a Baddeck, N.S., native, was traded to Victoriaville for Troy Vance last season.
Acadie-Bathurst’s Raphael Lafontaine and Charlottetown’s Daniel Sprong traded power-play markers in the second period.
Simon Fortier went upstairs to beat Islanders goalie Eric Brassard to make it 3-1 with 4:05 left in the third period after Gabriel Gosselin sent him in on a breakaway.
Jacob Brennan was the winning goalie.
The Islanders (20-39-3-5) conclude the regular season Saturday at 7 p.m., when the Saint John Sea Dogs come to town. The Titan ends the campaign Saturday in Moncton.
