CHARLOTTETOWN – Jonathan Drouin scored 49 seconds into overtime to give the Halifax Mooseheads a 3-2 victory over the Charlottetown Islanders on Tuesday night.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game was played before a sellout crowd of 3,718 fans at Eastlink Arena.
Timo Meier and Andrew Ryan also scored for the Mooseheads, who improved to 45-18-0-3 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses). Darcy Ashley of Brooklyn, P.E.I., was held pointless in the game, and Brent Andrews of Hunter River missed the game with an injury.
Troy Vance and Spenser Cobbold answered for the Islanders (20-38-3-5).
The Mooseheads led 1-0 after the first period, and the teams went into the second intermission tied 2-2.
Winning goaltender was Zach Fucale, and Eric Brassard was in goal for Charlottetown. The Mooseheads outshot the Islanders 39-21, including a 17-3 advantage in the third period.
