Game 3 in Abram-Village on Sunday

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings have taken control of the best-of-five quarter-final series in the Island Junior Hockey League.

The Red Wings scored four second-period goals in a 5-3 victory over the Holland College Hurricanes on Saturday night. The win gives the Red Wings a 2-0 series lead going into Game 3 at the Evangeline Recreation Centre on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

At Simmons Sport Centre, Jeremy Balderston and Curtis Martell each scored twice to lead the Red Wings. Travis Thibideau added a single goal while assists went to Tayler Smith, Matt Kelly, Fidan Feta and Lucas Matthews.

Patrick Cummiskey (1-2), Curtis Hall (1-1) and Nick MacDonald replied for the Hurricanes. Jonathan Richards (2) and JP Provencher added helpers.

Winning goaltender Chris Gallant turned in a 46-save effort. Matt Derry stopped 49 of 54 shots for the Hurricanes.

Referee Mike Annear called 11 minors, one fighting major and one game misconduct against the Red Wings. The Hurricanes picked up six minors, one checking-to-the-head major, one fighting major and two game misconducts.
