The Lynx defeated the Souris Hawks 6-4 on Wednesday night to win the best-of-five semifinal series in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League in five games.
The Lynx, who lost the first two games of the series against Souris, will now advance to face the defending-champion Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces in the best-of-five league final. The Lynx will enjoy home-ice advantage.
However, the Hawks did not make it easy on the Crapaud-based Lynx, who hosted the deciding game at the South Shore Actiplex.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period and 4-4 following 40 minutes. Colton Dawson’s fourth goal of the series 17 seconds into the third period gave the Lynx a 5-4 lead, and that score held up until Rob Miller sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 47 seconds to go.
Miller, who scored six times in the series, finished the game with two goals and an assist. Ivan MacPhail (1-1), Joel MacIsaac (1-1) and Brandon Green also scored for Southside. Other assists went to Willie McGuigan (2), Dawson, Marshall Thomas, Andy Murphy, Blake MacKenzie, Kevin Noonan, Cody Dawson and Sawyer Mayne.
JD Farrell (2), Mark McKenna and Brinsley Van Westemeng countered for Souris. Darcy Nicholson (3), Jordan MacCormack, Dylan Fay, Mitch Power and Derek Cormier drew assists.
John Miller earned the goaltending win over Seth Nicholson.
Referee Mike Annear called a total of four minor penalties in the game – three of those against Southside.
