Gaudet sparks Regals

ALBERTON – Jeff Gaudet scored three goals and assisted on two others for a five-point night in leading the Western Regals to an important win in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs.

The Regals outlasted the Summerside Hemphill GM Capitals 7-5 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five semifinal series. Game 4 has been scheduled for Credit Union Place in Summerside on Friday at 6:45 p.m. A Capitals’ win will force a deciding fifth game back in Alberton on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

At the Jacques Cartier Arena, the teams were tied 1-1 after the opening period and 4-4 following 40 minutes.  

Curklan Fraser (2), Jason Gallant and Jake Arsenault also scored for the Regals. TJ Shea, Drake Smallman, Brandon Williams and Brendan Shea chipped in with assists.

Chasse Gallant led the Capitals with two goals and two assists while Owen Arsenault netted a brace and Logan VanderVelden chipped in with a single goal. Assists went to Jesse MacFarlane, Cody Deighan, Brett Ramsay, Joel Arsenault, Ryan Campbell and Brandon Arsenault.

Kristen Clements started in goal for the Regals, and gave up four goals in 32 minutes. Avery Arsenault was beaten only in the final 28 minutes. Blake Arsenault went the distance in goal for Summerside.

Referee Jonny Martin called six minors, one double minor for spearing, one double minor for head contact and one checking-from-behind game misconduct against the Capitals. The Regals were tagged for six minor infractions.
