Banks records shutout before big crowd in O’Leary

O’LEARY – The Western Maroons have retaken the lead over the Charlottetown Abbies in the P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League playoffs.

Bronson Banks recorded the shutout in a 3-0 Maroons’ win on Tuesday night. The Maroons now lead the best-of-five semifinal series 2-1, with Game 4 at Simmons Sport Centre in Charlottetown on Friday at 6:40 p.m.

Before over 400 fans at the O’Leary Community Sports Centre, Alex Morrissey opened the scoring at 8:01 of the first period. Morrissey broke in all alone on Abbies goaltender Ava Boutilier, and made no mistake roofing a backhand to score what proved to be the game-winner.

Chandler Wood, who was set up by Chance Pitre and Bryden Smith, scored in the second period to give the Maroons a 2-0 lead after two. Brydon Smith banged home a rebound early in the third period to make it 3-0.

Charlottetown was tagged with four minor penalties, and the Maroons were whistled for three minors.
