O’LEARY – The Western Maroons will host the Charlottetown Abbies in an important P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League playoff game on Tuesday.

The teams go into Game 3 of the best-of-five semifinal series tied 1-1. The start time at the O’Leary Community Sports Centre is 6:45 p.m.

“The first two games of the series were great games,” assessed Maroons head coach Jeff Ellsworth. “Both teams competed hard and had a ton of chances. A bounce here or there proved to be the determining factors of the first two games.”

To illustrate the importance of Game 3, Maroons assistant coach Tyler Robinson says the Maroons do not want to head to Charlottetown for Game 4 facing elimination.

“So far home ice has been the advantage, and we want to keep playing well in front of our home fans,” said Robinson.

Ellsworth added the key to winning any series is doing the little things properly. He explained: “Winning puck battles, great first pass out of the zone and finishing on your chances. We need to bring it up a notch Tuesday night.”

Ellsworth is also looking for a more consistent effort from the Maroons.

“We will be stronger in Game 3,” he said. “I felt we just took a couple of shifts off in Game 2, and that was the difference factor.

“In this league that's all it takes to have the game shift away from you. We have to play more consistent in Game 3 for three periods of hockey.”
