BATHURST, N.B. - Failing to protect a third period lead cost the Charlottetown Islanders a 3-2 shootout loss to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at K.C. Irving Regional Centre Saturday night.
Titan winger Christophe Boivin scored on a power play with only three seconds left in the third period to snap Charlottetown's 2-1 lead and send the game into overtime.
Boivin later scored in the first round of the shootout to win the game for the Titan.
Anthony Cortese scored an unassisted goal to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead early in the second period.
Titan center Raphael Lafontaine scored on a power play at 7:13 to tie the game 1-1.
Charlottetown centre Alexandre Goulet scored at 19:15 to regain the lead going into the second intermission. Assists went to David Henley and Spenser Cobbold.
Scott Oke had two assists for the Titan, while singles went to Alexandros Soumakis and Matthew Boudreau.
Islanders netminder Mason McDonald stopped 27 of Bathurst's 29 shots in the loss, while Acadie goaltender Jacob Brennan made 28 saves.
