Dobson’s late goal lifts Summerside to 2-0 series lead

NORTH RUSTICO – Noah Dobson scored with 4:58 remaining in the third period to give the Summerside Capitals a 2-0 series lead over the Mid-Isle Matrix in the P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League playoffs on Saturday night.

Dobson broke a 2-2 tie and put the Caps in position to sweep the best-of-five semifinal series at Credit Union Place’s Ice Pad on Monday at 8:25 p.m.

After winning the series opener 6-1 on home ice, the Capitals jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by Keegan Buchanan and Blake Gallant at the North Star Arena.

The score remained 2-0 until Bryce Thompson scored twice in the first half of the third period to pull the Matrix even.

Zach Thususka, Liam Kerwin and Brodie MacArthur added assists for Summerside. Cameron Roberts, Ryan Boswall, Gage MacWilliams and Tyler Gallant collected helpers for Mid-Isle.

Winning goaltender was Evan Richard, and Tyler Caseley tended goal for the Matrix.
