Summerside bantams take opener from Matrix in semifinals

SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Capitals took control early en route to taking Game 1 from the Mid-Isle Matrix in the best-of-five semifinal series in the P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League on Thursday night.

The final score of the game played at Credit Union Place’s Ice Pad was 6-1.

The Capitals built an early 3-0 lead, and held period advantages of 3-1 and 4-1.

Evan Gallant and Zach Thususka each scored two goals to lead the Capitals, who received single tallies from Tyson Arsenault and Jack DesRoches. Coleton Perry (4), Sam Bernard (3), Darian Demchuk (2), Noah Dobson and Blake Gallant added assists.

Tyson Beckingham, who was set up by Cameron Roberts, replied for the Matrix.

Winning goaltender was Caleb Coyle.

Game 2 will be played at the North Star Arena in North Rustico on Saturday at 8 p.m.
