In semifinal series vs. Belfast

TIGNISH – The Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces will look to maintain home-ice advantage in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League playoffs.

The Aces will take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinal series against the Belfast Sabres into Game 2 at the Tignish Credit Union Arena on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

It’s the start of a busy weekend for the teams, who will play Game 3 in Belfast on Saturday night, and, if necessary, Game 4 will be back in Tignish on Sunday at 8 p.m.

Aces goaltender Chase Dyment was outstanding in Game 1, stopping 37 shots in a 4-2 win. Dyment will get the nod in Game 2, and the return of Jake Hackett gives the Aces a one-two punch in nets.

The top-three scorers in the playoffs are all from the Aces. Riley Shea, who is coming off a two-goal game, has 11 points while captain Kirk Ramsay has eight points and Brett Gaudet is tied for third with seven points.

The Tignish offence will be received a huge booster as last seasons’ top sniper, Traven Gaudet, is back. Forward Ryley Doyle and defenceman Lucas Gaudet have also returned to the lineup.

Aces co-coach Mike O’Halloran described Game 1 as hard hitting, and credited the team’s special teams. The Aces killed off two Belfast power plays at key times, and also went 1-for-2 with the man advantage.

The Aces are expecting their biggest crowd of the season.
