Blake Arsenault provided shutout goaltending in the Capitals’ 5-0 series-clinching win over the Charlottetown Abbies on Tuesday night. Summerside won the best-of-five quarter-final series 3-1.

The Capitals, who entered the playoffs as the fourth seed, will face either the second-seeded Mid-Isle Matrix or the No. 1 seed Western Regals in the best-of-five semifinal series. The Regals had a first-round bye.

If the Sherwood Falcons win their series against the Kings County Kings, Summerside will face the Regals, but if the sixth-seeded Kings advance the Capitals will take on the Matrix.

At Simmons Sport Centre, the Capitals were in front 1-0 after 20 minutes, and then took control of the game with three more unanswered goals in the middle frame.

Chasse Gallant (1-1), Brady Albert, Spencer Groom, Jorgen Strom and Cody Deighan scored for the Capitals. Single assists were credited to Joel Arsenault, Kolton Stright, Brett Ramsay, Dan Fingler, Kirk Arsenault and Cameron Gillis.

Zach Geldert tended goal for Charlottetown.

Eight of the game’s 15 minor penalties were called against the Capitals.
