POWNAL – The Mid-Isle Matrix eliminated the Pownal Red Devils from the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs on Tuesday night.

The Matrix doubled the Red Devils 6-3 to win the best-of-five quarter-final series 3-1. The Matrix will now move on to the best-of-five semifinal series, where they will face either the Summerside Hemphill GM Capitals or Sherwood Falcons.
The Falcons take a 2-1 lead in their quarter-final series against the Kings County Kings into Game 4 in Souris on Wednesday night. If the Falcons, who finished the regular season in third place, win the series they will be the opposition of second-place Mid-Isle, and but if sixth-seeded Kings County wins the Matrix will face the No. 4 seed Capitals.
The regular-season-champion Western Regals from Alberton had a first-round bye, and will face the lowest seed in the semifinals.
At the Pownal Sports Centre, the score was tied 2-2 after the first period, and the Matrix took a 5-3 lead into the second intermission.
Cody Miller (2-2) and Brady VanderVelden (1-3) each had four points to lead the Matrix, who finished the regular season in second place. Jacob Stewart (1-1), Drew Grady and Braeden Stewart added single goals. Brennan Jarvis and Evan Noonan added single assists.
For the Red Devils, Logan Toole (2) and Barrington Duffy found the back of the net. Luke Dibenedetto, Colin Koughan and Harrison Hayden contributed helpers.
Sean MacPhee was the winning goaltender, and Colby Landrigan was the goaltender of record for Pownal.
Each team was assessed two minor penalties.
