CORNWALL – The Mid-Isle Wildcats have advanced in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Female Hockey League playoffs.

The Wildcats held on to edge the Western Wind 2-1 on Sunday night to complete a three-game sweep of the best-of-five series. The Wildcats will now await the winner of the series between the Central Storm and Kings County Kings.

At the APM Centre in Cornwall, Jillian Lawless scored the only goal of the first period for the Wildcats, and the teams played a scoreless middle frame. Mary-Jo Fortin put the Wildcats up 2-0 early in the third period, but Abbie Morrissey brought the Wind to within a goal with six minutes remaining.

With the teams playing end-to-end action, the Wildcats managed to preserve the one-goal victory.

Bailey Simpson, Makayla Oatway and Sasha Joyce added assists for the Wildcats.
