Abbies, Caps go into Sunday’s Game 3 tied 1-1

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Charlottetown Abbies and Summerside Hemphill GM Capitals are returning to Summerside for Sunday evening’s Game 3 of the best-of-five quarter-final series in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League tied 1-1.

The opening faceoff at Eastlink Arena is set for 6:40.

After the Capitals won Game 1 4-3 on Wednesday night, the Abbies answered back with a 4-3 win of their own in Game 2 at Simmons Sport Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Seb Burns scored his second goal of the game with one minute remaining in regulation time to break a 3-3 tie for the Abbies, who led 2-0 after the first and second periods. Kyle Doucette and Cory Cudmore also scored for Charlottetown, which received assists from Keita Marikoshi, Jonny Gormley and Alex Hall.

Logan VanderVelden, Chasse Gallant and Brandon Arsenault found the back of the net for the Capitals. Joel Arsenault, Jesse MacFarlane and Owen Arsenault registered assists.

Zach Geldert was the winning goaltender, and Blake Arsenault was between the pipes for Summerside.

The Abbies were assessed five minor penalties while the Caps were whistled for two minors and one double minor for head contact.
