Hawks take low-scoring opener from Lynx

CRAPAUD – The Souris Hawks took the opening game of the best-of-five semifinal series against the Southside Lynx in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League.

The final score at the South Shore Actiplex on Saturday night was 3-1. The teams will play Game 2 in Souris on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Ryan Compton (1-1), Colby Mooney and JD Farrell accounted for the Hawks’ scoring. Luke MacDonald, Derek Cormier, Darcy Nicholson, Dylan Fay and Gabriel Leger collected assists.

Willie McGuigan, assisted by Spencer Dougay and Alex MacLeod, scored the lone Lynx goal.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, and Souris led 3-1 after two.

Winning goaltender was Seth Nicholson, and John Miller took the loss.

Referee Mike Annear called two of three minor penalties against Souris. Each team picked up one fighting major and one game misconduct.
