Tyler Rose scored in the sixth round of the shootout to give the Montague Maniacs a 7-6 win over the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers. The make-up game in the Island Junior Hockey League was scheduled to start at 9:15 p.m., but did not get underway until 9:50 and ended at 12:20 a.m.
Damon MacDonald (2-1), Matt Higgins (2) and Alex Gallant (2) scored in regulation time for the second-place Maniacs, who will take a 22-7-2 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses) record into Sunday evening’s road game against the Sherwood A&S Scrap Metal Falcons (10-14-6).
Matt Myers (3), Stewart Branstrom (2), Sam Hughes, Luke Collings and Chris Stevenson contributed assists for Montague.
Brett Hogan (3), Logan Garnhum (1-1), Kyle Doucette and Jeremy Jollimore netted regulation-time goals for the regular-season-champion Vipers, who will take a 25-5-1 record into Sunday night’s home game against Holland College at Community Gardens. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
Morgan Walker (2), Spencer McAllister, Brandon Gallant, Zen Hamil, Ryan Kelly and Spencer Montgomery were credited with assists.
Tyler Whiffen was the winning goaltender, and Grant Grady took the loss.
Referees Justin DesRoches and Jackson Doughart called four minors, one checking-to-the-head major, one fighting major, one 10-minute misconduct and two game misconducts against Montague. Kensington was called for nine minors, one fighting major and one game misconduct.
