Balderston sparks Red Wings past Hurricanes

ABRAM-VILLAGE – Jeremy Balderston was in on all three goals in the Arsenault Fish Mart Western Red Wings’ 3-1 win over the Holland College Hurricanes on Saturday night.

The Red Wings improved to 12-17-2 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses) while the Hurricanes, who were scheduled to visit Kensington on Sunday evening, fell to 7-19-3.

Balderston had a goal and two assists to lead the Red Wings, who received single goals from Blake Ozon (1-1) and Fidan Feta. Cleve McNeill, Nathan Ellis and Lucas Matthews added assists.

Jonathan Richards, assisted by Adam Gardiner, netted the lone goal for Holland College.

The Hurricanes led 1-0 after the first period, but the Red Wings took a 2-1 advantage into the second intermission.

Chris Gallant earned the goaltending win over Matt Derry.

Referees Wayne Doyle and Steve Dyer called six of nine minor penalties against the Hurricanes.
