SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild completed the regular season in the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League on a winning note Thursday evening.
The Wild edged the Saint John Vitos 5-4 in a make-up game. The Wild completed the 35-game regular season in fourth place in the six-team league at 14-17-4 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses). Saint John is listed in second place, tied with Moncton in points. Both teams have identical 24-10-1 records.
The Wild will now face the Charlottetown Islanders in a best-of-seven provincial major midget championship series to determine P.E.I.’s representative at the Atlantic major midget hockey championship. Game 1 of that series will be played at Community Gardens in Kensington on Saturday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m.
In Saint John, N.B., Kyle Pinksen (2), Parker Ronahan, Sam Jay and Bailey Webster scored for the Wild. Sam Jay, Jesse Annear and Michael Evoy chipped in with assists.
Jean-Michel LeBlanc (2), Adam Downey and Will Drummond replied for the Vitos.
The Vitos led 1-0 after the first period, but the Wild took a 3-1 advantage into the second intermission.
Winning goaltender was Bradley Shea, and Krystian Matthews took the loss.
The Vipers were assessed all four minor penalties called in the contest.
