O’LEARY – The Mid-Isle Wildcats have taken a 2-0 lead over the Western Wind in the best-of-five P.E.I. Midget AAA Female Hockey League playoff series.
The Wildcats pulled out a see-saw 6-5 decision in Game 2 at the O’Leary Community Sports Centre on Thursday night.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second period, but the Wind fought back to go ahead 4-3. The Wildcats answered back by scoring three goals late in the period to take a 6-4 advantage into the final frame.
The Wind scored a power-play goal in the third period to close to within one goal, but that’s as close as they could get.
Marilyn Fortin’s three goals and one assist led the Wildcats offensively. Makayla Oatway (2) and Teila Coulson (1-2) also scored for Mid-Isle. Emma MacPhail added an assist.
For the Wind, Katie Rayner (2-2), Hailey Matthews (1-2), Martina Ellis and Sami Jo Sentner found the back of the net. Taryn Skerry chipped in with two assists.
Jacqueline Hughes was the winning goaltender.
Game 3 is at the APM Centre in Cornwall on Sunday at 5 p.m.
