Wildcats erupt in third 
period of playoff opener

CORNWALL – The Mid-Isle Wildcats exploded for seven goals in the third period to defeat the Western Wind 8-2 in a P.E.I. Midget AAA Female Hockey League playoff game on Wednesday night.

The teams went into the final stanza tied 1-1 in Game 1 of the best-of-five series.

Marilyn Fortin had three goals and two helpers to lead the Wildcats while her sister, Mary-Jo Fortin, had one goal and an assist.

Also scoring for the Wildcats were Paige Larkin, Teila Coulson, Jillian Lawless and Sasha Joyce. Alisha MacDonald, Sydney Strongman, Stacy Montgomery and Emma MacPhail added assists.

Laura Ashley netted both goals for the Wind, with helpers going to Sami-Jo Sentner, Abbie Morrissey and Myriam Cyr.

Winning goaltender was Ashley Stead.

Game 2 is in O’Leary on Thursday at 8:15 p.m.
