Flyers edge Wild in shootout

KENSINGTON – Kari Belec scored the winning goal in a shootout to give the Moncton Flyers an exciting 5-4 win over the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild on Saturday night.

The New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League game was played at Community Gardens.

Kyle Ward (2), Nolan Alward (1-1) and Liam Conrad scored in regulation time for the Flyers, who improved to 24-9-1 (won-lost-overtime losses).

Campbell Gallant (2), Colton Chiasson and Austin Taylor netted goals for the Wild (13-17-4).

The first period ended in a 1-1 tie, and the Flyers took a 3-2 advantage into the second intermission.

Julian Galloway was the winning goaltender. Cameron Visser was between the pipes for Kensington.

The Wild’s game in Saint John, N.B., on Sunday was postponed due to the weather.
