Women Panthers edge Mount Allison

SACKVILLE, N.B. – The UPEI Panthers posted a 1-0 shutout victory over Mount Allison in Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey action here Friday.

Scoring information wasn’t available.

UPEI finished the season 9-13-2 (won-lost-overtime losses) and, as the sixth playoff seed, has to wait until today to see whether its first round opponent (and third seed) is the University of Moncton or St. Thomas, which were tied at 27 points going into today games.

Saint Mary’s beat St. Francis Xavier 4-2 in Friday’s other game.

Saturday, Moncton plays Saint Mary’s, St. Thomas faces Mount Allison and Dalhousie battles St. F.X.

Also Friday, the Panthers signed Lindsay Johnston for the 2014-15 season.

Johnston, a five-foot, seven-inch forward from Bowmanville, Ont., is in her third season with the Durham West Lightning of the Provincial Women’s Hockey League.

She will be enrolled in the psychology program.
