Sabres take 2-1 series lead

BELFAST – The Belfast Sabres scored twice in the first period, and made that offence stand up in a 2-1 win over the Sherwood Falcons on Friday night.

The Sabres now lead the best-of-five quarter-final series in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League 2-1. The Falcons will host Game 4 at the Cody Banks Arena on Monday at 8:35.

At the Belfast Recreation Centre, Jack Panting and Jared Fraser staked the Sabres to a 2-0 lead after one period.

Joseph Ready got one goal back for the Falcons in the middle frame, but that’s as close as they could get.

Jason Whiteway picked up the goaltending win over Steve Lannigan. Belfast held a slim 34-32 shots-on-goal advantage.

Each team was assessed three minor penalties. Belfast also picked up one game misconduct.
