At Eastlink Arena on Thursday night

SUMMERSIDE – It will be a battle for first place in the P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League on Thursday night.

The Summerside Capitals will host the O’Leary-based Western Maroons in a 7:40 start at Eastlink Arena.

The Capitals, who are 22-3-2 (won-lost-tied), currently hold a one-point lead over the Maroons (21-4-3). Thus, this game could go a long ways in determining first place and that valuable first-round bye.

“As always, (Maroons head coach) Jeff (Ellsworth) will have his players ready to play against us,” said Capitals head coach Todd Richard. “Every game versus the Maroons has been hard fought, and with both teams battling for first place we expect nothing different Thursday night.

“Just coming off four (games) in four (days) and heading into a three-in-three, we are looking for continued full team efforts. Each of our three lines are contributing at both ends of the ice, and that is going to be important in the coming games and into the playoffs.”

The Capitals will close out the regular season by hosting the Mid-Isle Matrix at Credit Union Place’s Ice Pad on Friday at 5:40 p.m., and travel to Charlottetown to visit the Abbies at Simmons Sport Centre on Saturday at 8:10 p.m.

Organizations: Capitals, Ellsworth, Mid-Isle Matrix Credit Union Place Simmons Sport Centre

Geographic location: Charlottetown
