CHARLOTTETOWN – Caitlyn Manning scored the only goal of the shootout in the fifth round to give the Saint Mary’s Huskies a 2-1 win over the UPEI Panthers on Saturday afternoon.
The Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey game was played before 197 fans at MacLauchlan Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Laura Polak staked the Huskies to a 1-0 lead at 8:44 of the middle frame. The score remained that way until 15:06 of the third period, when Christina Kelly set up Emma Martin with the equalizer.
Goaltenders were Sienna Cooke (Huskies) and Marie-Soleil Deschenes (Panthers). Overall, the Huskies outshot the Panthers 28-25, including an 8-5 advantage in overtime.
The Panthers will close out the regular season with a road game against the Mount Allison Mounties on Friday night.
