Aces begin title defence on winning note

TIGNISH – The Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces began defence of the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League championship on a winning note Friday night.

The Aces scored five unanswered third-period goals in trimming the North River Flames 7-1 in the opening game of the best-of-five quarter-final series at the Tignish Credit Union Arena. Game 2 is scheduled for the APM Centre in Cornwall on Saturday at 7:50 p.m.

Riley Shea’s hat trick paced the Aces in Game 1 while single goals came off the sticks of Parker Arsenault (1-1), Kirk Ramsay (1-1), Tyson Carragher and Charlie Bernard.

Cameron MacMurdo scored the lone North River goal.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the opening period, and the Aces took a 2-1 advantage into the second intermission.

Chase Dyment earned the goaltending win as the Flames held a narrow 35-34 shots-on-goal advantage.

Ramsay was selected as the Regal Cresting player of the game.
