Souris takes tight opener from Summerside

SLEMON PARK – The Souris Hawks scored two goals in the final eight minutes of the third period to open the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League playoffs on a winning note.

The Hawks defeated the host Summerside Source for Sports Capitals in the opening game of the best-of-five quarter-final series. Game 2 is scheduled for the Eastern Kings Sportsplex in Souris on Sunday at 7 p.m.

At The Plex in Slemon Park, Jordan Roche, Jeremy Peters, Darcy Nicholson and Mark McKenna scored for the Hawks.

Matt MacDonald and Greg Arsenault replied for Summerside.

There was no score after the first period, and the teams went into the second intermission tied 2-2.

Kelton Ellis was the winning goaltender, and Catlin Sonier took the loss.

Referee Justin DesRoches called four minors and two 10-minute misconducts against Summerside. Souris was whistled for three minors.
