UPEI men’s hockey team defeats Blue Eagles

MONCTON, N.B. – The UPEI Panthers scored three unanswered goals to pick up an important 3-1 road win over the Moncton Blue Eagles here at the J. Louis Levesque Arena on Friday night.

The fourth-place Panthers, who are 13-9-3 (won-lost-overtime losses) moved to within three points of third-place Moncton (16-9-0). UPEI is three points ahead of fourth-place St. Francis Xavier (11-11-3).

After Moncton’s Steve Lebel opened the game’s scoring 1:02 into the third period, Travis McIsaac (12:43), Dana Fraser 917:03) and Reggie Traccitto (18:35) countered for UPEI.

Winning goaltender Wayne Savage finished with 24 saves.

UPEI hosts St. Thomas (6-17-2) on Saturday at 7 p.m.
