Summerside junior C team closes out regular season with road loss

BELFAST – The Summerside Source for Capitals completed regular-season play in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League on a losing note Sunday night.

The Capitals, who dropped an 8-4 road decision to the Belfast Sabres, completed the regular season in fourth place at 16-11-1 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses). Belfast is second at 19-8-1.

Jack Panting scored a hat trick to lead the Sabres in the finale, and Cody Garnhum chipped in with five points – one goal and four assists. Nolan Irving (1-3), Ben Nabuurs (1-1), Colin McGuirk and Jared Fraser rounded out Belfast’s scoring. Matthew Glover (2), Mike MacQullian (2), Cody McGuirk and Brady Doiron were credited with assists.

For the Capitals, Johnny Johnson (2), Nathan McInnis and Cameron Arsenault found the back of the net. Greg Arsenault (2), Ryan MacArthur, Brittan Turner, Matt MacDonald and Cody Arsenault chipped in with helpers.

The Sabres built period advantages of 2-1 and 4-2.

Winning goaltender was Ben Ladner, and Catlin Sonier took the loss.

Referee Mike Annear called eight minors and one double minor for slashing against the Capitals. The Sabres were assessed four minors.
