Lynx closes out regular season on winning note

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Southside Lynx closed out the regular season in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League on a winning note Monday night.

The Lynx outlasted the Sherwood Falcons 9-5 at the Cody Banks Arena to finish the regular season in first place with a 23-2-3 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses) record.

Joel MacIsaac (2-1), Rob Miller (2), Cody Dawson (1-2), Ivan MacPhail (1-1), Marshall Mayne, Andy Murphy and Alex MacLeod scored for the Lynx. Other assists went to Marshall Thomas (2), Colton Dawson (2), Spencer Dougay, Sawyer Mayne, Taylor Buote and Brandon Green.

Joe Ready (2), Zach MacDonald, Zac Mella and Jacob MacLean countered for the Falcons (3-22-2). Joel Doran (3), Zack Gould (2), Nathan Stewart and Owen Wilson chipped in with assists.

The Lynx exploded to a 7-3 lead after the opening 20 minutes, and took an 8-3 cushion into the second intermission.

Dylan Garnhum earned the goaltending win.

Referee Wayne Doyle assessed seven of the game’s nine minor penalties against Southside, which also picked up one 10-minute misconduct.
