Derry recorded the franchise's first-ever shutout since Holland College joined the Island Junior Hockey League in 2010. Derry’s history-making performance came in a 5-0 win over the Sherwood Falcons at Simmons Sport Centre on Saturday night.

Patrick Cummiskey scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Hurricanes, who improved to 5-17-3 (won-lost-overtime/shootout losses). Mark MacMillan netted the other two Holland College goals and assisted on another while Eric Locke (3), Andrew Skinner (2), Jordan Gallant (2) and Jonny Richards chipped in with assists.

The Hurricanes were out in front 1-0 after the first period, and increased that margin to 4-0 following 40 minutes.

Kody MacDonald and Daniel Nicholson shared the goaltending duties for the Falcons (10-12-4).

Referee Jeff Heron called a total of 11 minor penalties – six of those against the Falcons.
