MIRAMICHI - The Summerside Western Capitals lost their third straight one-goal game on Saturday night, falling 5-4 to the Miramichi Timberwolves in a shootout.

The Capitals fell behind early in the first period when Billy Gaston beat Alex Kelly, with assists going to Jordan Kennedy and Bryce Milson.

The Caps answered back with second period goals from Thomas Stavert and David Sweet before the 12-minute mark of the period, before Gaston scored his second goal late in the frame to tie things up at two-apiece.

The game opened up full-throttle midway through the third period, when Milson netted one of his own, and Kennedy followed up with a shorthanded goal with under eight minutes to play.

Down, but not out, the Capitals stormed back. Maxim Pitre netted his third of the season with 1:27 remaining in the game to put the Caps within one, before Blake Millman potted the tying goal with 59 seconds left. Stavert picked up helpers on both goals.

Overtime would solve nothing, leading the two teams into a shootout.

Milson and Blaize Bridges exchanged goals to open the shootout, Pitre, Rankyn Campbell and Stavert exchanged misses, paving the way for Gaston to slip one by Kelly for the win.

The loss to the Meek Division-leading 'Wolves was the Capitals second of the weekend, as they fell 2-1 to the third-place Woodstock Slammers on Friday.

The Capitals will be back in action again on Wednesday night, in a makeup game on the road against the Campbellton Tigers. The game was originally slated to be played on Nov. 20, but was cancelled due to a Confederation Bridge closure. The Caps will return home Friday night to take on the Valley Wildcats at Eastlink Arena.
