Morell’s Emily van Diepen had two assists Wednesday to lead the Mount Allison Mounties to a 4-1 victory over the UPEI Panthers in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women’s hockey action.
Courtney King and Megan Cameron scored power-play goals while Samantha Bujold and Amanda Volcko had even-strength markers for the Mounties at MacLauchlan Arena.
Emma Martin from Sam Sweet and Maggie Grimmer scored late in the third period to break the shutout bid. It was the first AUS goal for Martin, a rookie defenceman with the Panthers from Winsloe.
Kate O’Brien made 18 saves in the win while Marie Soleil Deschenes stopped 21 shots in the loss.
The Mounties improved to 9-9-0 and leapfrog the Panthers (8-11-1) in the standings for fifth place.
The Mounties held period leads of 1-0 and 4-0.
The Panthers are off until Wednesday when they travel to Antigonish, N.S., to play the conference-leading St. F.X. X-Women at 7:30 p.m.
