SUMMERSIDE – The Woodstock Slammers defeated the Summerside Western Capitals 3-2 in MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) action at Eastlink Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Brett MacLean, Jake Wright and Angus Johnston scored for the Slammers, who improved to 19-16-2-1 (won-lost-overtime losses/shootout losses) while opening up a nine-point lead over the fourth-place Capitals (14-19-2-2) in the Roger Meek Division.

Blaize Bridges and Curtis McGregor answered for the Caps.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, but the Slammers outshot the Caps 19-10 and outscored them 2-0 in the middle frame to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.

Overall, the Capitals outshot the Slammers by a 39-30 margin.

Referee T.J. Courtney called four minors against the Slammers and two minors and one double minor for spearing against the Capitals.
