MHL hands out suspensions from Caps’ game Friday

FREDERICTON – The MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) has handed out suspensions from Friday night’s game between the Summerside Western Capitals and Campbellton Tigers.

Maxim Pitre of the Capitals was handed a two-game suspension for being assessed a boarding major with penalty in which a line brawl ensued at 12:26 of the third period.

The Tigers were hit hard for their part in a line brawl in the third period. Players Joey Bernard and Chris Clark were each handed five games for being the instigators of multiple fights at the same stoppage; Brendan Blanchette was given a two-game ban for participating in multiple fights at the same stoppage, and head coach Troy Ryan receives one game for his players participating in multiple fights at the same stoppage. The Tigers were also fined.

The Capitals did not receive any suspensions for their part in the line brawl. Pitre, Chad Jones and Joey Colatarci all picked up fighting majors and game misconducts.

The Capitals won the game, played at the Campbellton Memorial Civic, 5-2.

The Capitals are back in action at Eastlink Arena on Sunday. The Woodstock Slammers will visit for a 2 p.m. start.
